“Sing, Dance, Play and Study in English with your Friends!” Our afternoon kindergarten class
This class is for children who graduated from JUN’s morning class and moved on to kindergarten. We also welcome returners from overseas and other students at kindergarten that want to practise English. This class helps kids to remember the English they learnt and improve their speaking and reading skills. Two native English teachers run this class and we have a no Japanese during class policy.
Our classes are 90 minutes long, longer than most other English conversation schools. We offer catch-up lessons to students if they miss a class. Some of our kindergarten students like to come back to the morning class when they have days off from kindergarten.
We use Jolly Phonics, which is taught in public elementary schools in Britain. It is a fun way for children to learn how to read and write. It is a multi- sensory teaching method.
(Please visit the jolly phonics website for more information on this method.)
On our attendance cards we have a merit system where kids get stickers based on how well they performed and behaved during class. They collect stickers throughout the term and they can use them as points to get rewards at the end of the term.
The teachers introduce little games and activities to help encourage children’s motivation to study English.
For Halloween we dress up and do trick or treating at JUN and for Christmas we make Christmas cards. We upload the pictures from each class to our Facebook page for parents to see. Interviews and consultations with the principal are arranged at the end of each term.
